Passing derogatory comments on Lord Krishna and bashing up students for observing fast on Janmashtami proved dear to a Chhattisgarh teacher.
The teacher, Charan Markam posted at Government Middle School in Bundapara under Girola village panchayat of Kondagaon district was placed under suspension. The action came following complaints lodged by the villagers.
Markam allegedly bashed up a section of students studying in Classes 7 and 8 for observing fast on Janmashtami and made objectionable comments against Lord Krishna, also known as Dwarkadheesh for being the king of Dwaraka. The incident happened on Tuesday, a day after Janmashtami was celebrated.
The teacher asked how many of the students had observed fast and performed rituals during the festival. He then selectively thrashed the students who responded in positive. The villagers submitted audio and video clips to substantiate their claim.
The district administration conducted an enquiry into the incident and found Markam guilty in the preliminary probe. He was immediately placed under suspension, citing the relevant section of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules for hurting religious sentiments and spreading hatred in the society.
Based on the report of district administration, the police had lodged an offence and were investigating the matter.
The police have also received a complaint from a tribal organisation stating that the teacher was beaten up by the villagers. The police were examining the complaint.
