At a time when Congress is reeling under serious groupism in different states, former party president Rahul Gandhi called for collective leadership giving an overt message of unity to the cadres.

“Collective spirit reflects the true ethos of the Congress party,” Gandhi said at the virtual launch of the district Congress committee office in Kannur of Kerala on Thursday. The message sent out by Rahul Gandhi added significance as the simmering differences among party cadres had been spilling out that had been damaging the party.

Of the latest, Chhattisgarh witnessed a flurry of activities right from the state capital to the national last week. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior most minister T S Singh Deo have locked horns over change in leadership following a power sharing agreement, which Congress high command has been denying time and again.

Even in Kerala, former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy and veteran Ramesh Chennithala are clashing over the recent state organisation appointments. “Over the years, Congress in Kerala has set a stellar example of collective leadership. This collective spirit reflects the true ethos of the Congress party,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The Punjab Congress is also facing bitter feuds are between Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and state president Navjot Sidhu while all is not well between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan.

“Today, our nation is at a critical crossroad. As the principal opposition party, the Congress party has a moral duty to fight these forces that threaten the very idea of India. Modi govt has clearly mishandled the economy. And, what this country has built over the last 70 years, is being given away to select few friends of the PM. Congress party must oppose this fire sale of our crown jewels at every level,” Gandhi said attacking the National Monetisation Pipeline.
