BJP announces election in-charge for poll-bound states

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been appointed as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s poll in charge for the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur Assembly elections are scheduled to be held next year. Of the poll-bound states, Uttar Pradesh is the most crucial for the BJP that has been in power. The party will focus on the state not only to retain power but also consolidate its position for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

For, Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats and 403 assembly constituencies. Pradhan will be assisted by union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, sports minister Anurag Singh Thakur, minister Shobha Karandlaje, Rajya Sabha MP Saroj Pandey, Captain Abhimanyu and Vivek Thakur as co-in charge.

Besides, the BJP has divided the state into six regions namely Western Uttar Pradesh, Brij, Awadh, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Kashi. It had appointed in-charge for each region to strengthen the organisational coordination.

The BJP also announced that Parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi will be the election in charge of Uttarakhand. Bengal Lok Sabha MP Locket Chatterjee and party spokesperson RP Singh are the co-in charge.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has been made the election in-charge for Punjab polls while former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is appointed as the election in-charge of Goa. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav has been given charge of the upcoming assembly elections in Manipur.
