Taliban “supporters” kill seven soldiers of Pakistan army in Waziristan

Militants taking shelter in Waziristan, which was considered as the save haven for the al-Qaeda fighters, killed seven soldiers of Pakistan army that conducted an operation to flush out terrorists from the area.

The double-standard of Pakistani government stood exposed and its soldiers had to pay the cost. On one hand it had recognised and declared to act as “advisor” to the Taliban government, on other hand it launched a operation in Waziristan on Afghan border against the militants enjoying support of Taliban.

The Islamic militants in Waziristan are said to have close affiliations with the Taliban.  Waziristan is often mentioned as a haven for al-Qaeda fighters. There was speculation that some al-Qaeda leaders have found refuge in the area controlled by the Emirate, which was a staging ground for militant operations in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani Army launched an operation in the Asman Manza area of South Waziristan on the Afghan border on Wednesday. It was based on the intelligence input. Ironically, the Pakistani authorities were supporting militant-led regime in Kabul and attacking outfit in Waziristan.

The militants killed seven soldiers of the Pakistan Army. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, said the operation five terrorists were also killed during intense exchange of fire.

The security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation “to eliminate any other terrorists” found in the area, the statement added.

The attacks on security forces remain unabated even after the Taliban regime came to power in Afghanistan. Earlier this month, at least four Frontier Corps officials were martyred and 18 others injured in a suicide attack near a check post on Quetta’s Mastung Road. Last week, two Pakistan Army soldiers were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in North Waziristan.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack as well as a suicide attack in neighboring South Waziristan on September 13 that claimed the life of a soldier.
