Bhilai Steel Plant excels, from factory to faculty

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant is well-known for training activities along with the Plant’s production activities. BSP’s Human Resource Development department (HRDD) is providing training services to SAIL’s different units, different companies and colleges apart from Bhilai Steel Plant personnel through online and offline mode.

HRDD continues to excel in the field of imparting training under the guidance of S K Dubey, ED (P & A) and Saurabh Sinha, HoD and GM (HRD).

Bhilai Management Development Centre (BMDC) has an important role in imparting Management Training by HRDD. Numerous management programmes have been organised at BMDC even during COVID times. Number of programmes had been restricted earlier due to COVID but now classroom training programmes are being resumed at BMDC.


As the Plant steps up its pace with increased production, the training stream is also trying to bounce back from the effects of COVID. As the production is getting normalised, training activities are also catching momentum. Training programmes are now returning to normalcy.

Sanjeev Shrivastava, DGM (HRD) shares that training programmes at BMDC have been started afresh. All precautionary measures are being taken for COVID during these training programmes. Offline programmes with physical sessions in classrooms are now being successfully organised. As many as 18 training programmes with 300 participants were organised in July 2021 while 16 programmes with 366 participants were organised in August 2021 successfully. In all, during July and August 2021, 34 programmes with 650 persons participated in training programmes at BMDC. Different modes of training, varying from classroom training to digital training are being successfully organised by BMDC.

In house programmes at BMDC include Business Finance for Non-Finance managers, Getting the best out of people through Transactional Analysis, CSR – Our role and action, Preventive Vigilance, Managing Stress, Time Management and Steel plant Technology and Process Automation. In house programmes for other departments comprise of NABL awareness programme (ISO17025), NABL internal Auditors training programme, Safety Defensive drive, Swasya Leadership development programme, BOW-TIE, Integrated Management System.

Online digital mode mandatory programmes include Advanced General Management Programme, Achieving Managerial Excellence (AME), Enhancing Managerial Effectiveness (EME). Other online programmes include LEO-Estate record digitalisation and LRIMS (Land Record Information Management System) in SAIL, LEO – Consolidation of Estate records and assets in SAIL, Industrial hydraulics, Emergency planning in hazardous factories, LEO-Effective utilisation of GeM portal, LIFE (Living with full inspiration and full energy), Industrial gas Safety in steel industries.

Sanjeev Shrivastava, DGM (HRD), along with S K Palo, AGM (HRD) and their team at BMDC are taking management training programmes to the next level and helping in establishing BMDC as an excellent training centre. BMDC has certainly created a niche for itself in the training filed,
