For Ram Bahadur Shah, it was Diwali a month and a half in advance as “laxmi” came in a spectacular fashion.
A farmer from a village under the Katihar police station area in the Muzaffarpur district, Ram Bahadur was in a jubilation when a Customer Service Point (CSP) executive told him that he had more than Rs 52 crore credited to his account. But the festive fervour did not last long as the bank authorities clarified that the transfer was a technical fault.
Ram Bahadur Shah said he had reached the bank to get his pension account updated. When he submitted his Aadhaar card and punched his thumb for verification, the account balance displayed a whopping Rs 52 crore. “I was shocked to hear this and wondered where the amount had come from,” Ram Bahadur Shah said.
The poor farmer now eyes a fraction of money that had been transferred to his account due to errors committed by the bank. “I only appeal to the government to give us some of this amount so that we can spend the rest of our lives smoothly,” Ram Bahadur Shah pleaded.
The incident came to light a day after two school students in the state’s Katihar district woke up to find over Rs 900 crore in their accounts.
