The Congress showed courtesy to the Trinamool Congress by not fielding a candidate against Mamata Banerjee in the by-election but the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is not responding reciprocally.
TMC National General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhisekh Banerjee lashed out at Congress; indicating that it was not “highly” obliged with the courtesy of Congress. The TMC also underlined that BJP was not the only political enemy, Congress was also standing in the same line.
Abhishek Banerjee hits out at Congress in the same way as he lashed BJP in the Murshidabad by-election campaign today. Abhishek said, “Congress leaders are not seen here on the ground. Have you seen Adhir Choudhury? The Congress and TMC are both fighting BJP but the difference is Congress getting defeated and TMC is defeating BJP everywhere.”
Murshidabad is known to be the bastion of Adhir Choudhury but in the 2021 Assembly polls out of 20 seats of Murshidabad, TMC has got 18 and Congress just zero.
Banerjee was addressing an election rally in Jangipur that will go to the polls with Samsergunj and Bhabanipur from where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting the by-election. Following the meeting between Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi, the Congress party showed the courtesy to not put any candidate in Bhabanipur despite protest from the local leadership.
The TMC has been entertaining Congress to a limit. It attended the tea party hosted by Rahul Gandhi but refused to respond to all his calls.
Political observers in West Bengal felt that TMC leaders had been hinting that it was they and not Congress leaders who would lead the alliance, if any. This is the reason Bengal’s ruling party leaders make Congress realise they are no different than BJP to them.
