Recognizing plastic pollution as a critical global challenge impacting ecosystems, water quality and community health Tata Steel UISL reinforced its commitment to establishing Jamshedpur as a model for sustainable, plastic-free urban living.

The Public Health Department of Tata Steel UISL has intensified its city-wide campaign focused on plastic-free adherence and robust waste segregation. This initiative has successfully fostered a positive shift in community behaviour, evidenced by a significant increase in household participation in separating wet and dry waste. This improved segregation is essential for enhancing recycling, optimizing composting processes and substantially reducing pressure on city landfills.

To cultivate environmental stewardship from an early age, Tata Steel UISL launched a targeted educational outreach program. Nukkad Nataks (street plays) have been successfully staged across more than 50 schools, using engaging and simple narratives to illustrate the detrimental effects of single-use plastics and promote cleaner city habits. Further bolstering this effort, the creative mascot, “Plastic Danav” (The Plastic Monster), has been introduced. Its high-visibility visits to schools, markets and parks are proving effective in connecting with families and symbolizing the threat of careless plastic disposal.

In key commercial zones, Tata Steel UISL, in collaboration with JNAC, is strengthening enforcement of the Two Dustbin Campaign while actively supporting vendors in transitioning to sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags and paper packaging. Through continuous public awareness, enhanced recycling infrastructure and proactive citizen involvement, Tata Steel UISL remains resolutely committed to achieving a Single-Use Plastic Mukt Jamshedpur.
