The Railway Protection Force (RPF) nabbed the attacker of actor Saif Ali Khan from a running train at Dongargarh in Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was attacked 6 times with a knife on the intervening night of 15-16 January. The attackers entered his house with the intention of theft and managed to escape attacking him.

The team of Durg RPF post has nabbed the accused from Gyaneshwari Express in Dongargarh railway station, a senior police official said. The information has been given to Mumbai Police that was likely to reach by late evening. The accused will be handed over to the Mumbai police that had been running from pillar to post to get clues about the attacker.

The RPF official said the accused had been identified as Akash Kannaujiya, who is a resident of Kolava in Mumbai. He was going to his grandmother’s house in Champa—about 220 km from here—to take shelter and escape from police clutches.

He was traveling in the general compartment of Gyaneshwari Express. After the arrival of the Mumbai Police team, further details would be shared.

Sources said after arresting the accused, the Durg RPF team sent his picture to the Mumbai Police that confirmed his identity.

The RPF spotted the attacker after the Mumbai Police team had circulated the photo of a suspected accused on social media.
