Raipur, November 15
Adani Vidya Mandir (AVM), run by the Adani Foundation in Surguja, has taken a significant step towards giving tribal students a modern learning experience by providing them with customised tablets as per their grades.
All 410 students in classes 4 to 10 will each have their own tablet allowing them to access self-paced learning even after school hours on a customised tablet even without Internet connection.
AVM is a co-educational, English medium school affiliated to CBSE and provides education to children from in and around Surguja, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds. Most of them are first-generation learners, who lack access to the Internet, modern technology, and even the most fundamental academic after-school help. The school aims to assist students in realising their full potential by providing a learner-friendly environment and devoted instructors.
The Adani Foundation Chairperson Dr Priti Adani said: “Adani Vidya Mandir in Surguja caters to a highly marginalized population. With access to digital tools, the students will be equipped with an improved educational experience as well as ease of learning. Ultimately, we hope that the success of these children will empower their families and communities.”
This move is beneficial considering that the school is in a remote location that is deprived of sources like coaching, tuition, online classes, varied assessment techniques, and expert guidance. It will also enhance the professional skills of the teachers.
“With this tablet, we will be able to understand our syllabus in a better way. Many a time, some questions remain unanswered while studying at home and we have to wait till we go to school the next day. Now, we won’t face such a problem,” said class X student Anishma Porte.
Many eminent citizens of the area and parents participated in the tablet distribution programme. Chief guest Mr. Siddharth Singh Deo, an MLA representative, called it a commendable effort and encouraged the children to study hard.
Manoj Kumar Shahi, Cluster Head, PEKB Mines; Ram Dwivedi, Cluster HR Head; Satyendra Baghel, AVP, Business Development; Jayant Mohanty, Region CSR Head, Adani Foundation; and Rajesh Ranjan, CSR Head, Adani Foundation, Surguja, were also present on the occasion. Mr. Brijlal Das, whose son is studying in class IX, said, “We are thankful to Adani Vidya Mandir to provide our children with everything related to higher education in these remote areas.”
The school has also converted seven classrooms into digital learning spaces to improve the teaching and learning experience. Digitalization in school will provide good content and enhance the skills of the teachers, which will be beneficial to students in improving their knowledge and learning steps. Students will benefit from the assistance provided by e-learning platform BYJU’s in developing and achieving higher aspirations and career paths.
Surguja is one of Chhattisgarh’s oldest districts, with scheduled tribes constituting most of the population. About half of the land in the district is covered by forests. Difficult geography, poor infrastructure, and high levels of underdevelopment and poverty pose multiple challenges. The Adani Group’s entry into the state has helped to restore some sense of normalcy to the lives of the tribal people.
The Group’s CSR arm, Adani Foundation, conducts many programmes of education, health, livelihood promotion and infrastructure development along with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL).
