Mrs Chhaya Mishra, vice president of the Advocates Association, Patna High Court on Wednesday strongly opposed the decision of association election returning officer to raise the fees for filing of nomination papers for April 17 elections.

Mrs Chhaya Mishra regretted fees for nomination filing for president has been raised to Rs 25,000 for vice president Rs 20,000 against Rs 1,000 at present.

Heavy increases are aimed at preventing genuine, reserving but economically poor advocates from contesting the elections. Nomination fee for Lok Sabha is Rs 20,000 because of expenditure of the Commission, security measures etc. Here, number of voters is quite small, it is one polling centre arrangement. Fee hike is arbitrary and exorbitant.

She requested the returning officer to withdraw the decision and restore it to 2023 level to facilitate fair contest and equal Play ground for the contesting advocates.

Advocates Association is the strongest and oldest body of lawyers with 20,000 members and its members had been the first Rashtrapati,Dr Rajendra Prasad, former union law and justice minister,Sri Ravishankar Prasad, several judges of Patna High Court and Supreme Court of India.ed
