Kochi, May 22
After the Left Democratic Alliance (LDF) led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) government in Kerala decided to induct new faces in the state cabinet, opposition Congress followed the suit.
The Congress today appointed 56-year-old V D Satheeshan as the new leader of opposition in Kerala Assembly. The post in the previous assembly was held by Ramesh Chennithala. Instead of repeating, the Congress high command decided to go for a change.
The decision was taken by the AICC and was communicated to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee that welcomed it.
Senior Congress leaders said that though the performance of Ramesh Chennithala as opposition leader was not in question, many wanted a change in the state. The Communist party had brought in more youngsters and that even paid divided to the party in the elections.
There has been a call for generational change from within the Congress.
V D Satheeshan, the five-time-MLA from North Paravur constituency, had been a widely accepted face in the Kerala Congress and party workers have a lot of expectation from him.
Satheeshan has been the AICC secretary and also the Secretary of NSUI.
