Stoking a controversy over the “nationality” of Lord Rama, Nepal now rake-up the issue of Janmabhumi (birthplace).
A section of Nepali media termed the Rama Janmabhumi as “razed mosque site”. This despite the Archaeological findings had proved that the Hindu temple in Ayodhya had been converted into Babri mosque.
Even the apex court after 134-years of legal battle had endorsed that the site was birthplace of Lord Rama—revered highly in Nepal.
A leading Nepali English newspaper put the heading “Indian PM Modi lays foundation of temple at razed mosque site”.
The report elaborated “Despite the coronavirus restricting a large crowd, Hindus rejoiced Wednesday as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke ground on a long-awaited temple of their most revered god, Ram, at the site of a demolished 16th-century mosque”.
Nepal has a glorious past with Epic Ramayana. But its rulers are trying to put the faith of people at stake to score over the turbulence in Indo-Nepal bilateral ties. Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, widely seen as pro-China and anti-India, had recently triggered a raging controversy by reportedly claiming that the “real” Ayodhya lies in Nepal and not in India and that Lord Rama was born in Thori in southern Nepal.
