Raipur, November 27

Just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in Chhattisgarh on a two-day visit starting November 29, the state government made a major administrative surgery affecting 13 senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

The removal of Managing Director (MD) of the state-run Marketing Federation (MARKFED), Kiran Kaushal drew the attention in the corridors of power. The 2009-batch IAS officer has been transferred to Mantralaya as secretary without any charge.

According to sources, her failure to handle the paddy procurement had been cited as a possible reason for stern action. The state government had received serious complaints about the irregularities in the procurement.

Being an important event in the state in terms of farmer welfare, paddy procurement started on November 15. Being the head of MARKFED, the nodal agency for procurement, she reportedly failed to put the things in order that resulted in farmers’ resentment spilling out in open.
