Akshay Shrikant Bapat will be the new Technical Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), the Odisha-based arm of the state-run Coal India Limited (CIL).
PSU head-hunter, Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), has recommended the name Bapat for the post. His name was short-listed from eight candidates interviewed by the Board for the post.
Presently posted as Executive Director will CIL, Bapat has a long stint with SECL, the Chhattisgarh-based entity of the CIL. He was Chief Manager (mining) for 14 years and General Manager (mining) with SECL.
The Sambalpur-headquartered subsidiary of CIL aims to achieve 190 million tonnes of dry fuel production in the current fiscal. It will be about 13 per cent more than 168 million tonnes production recorded in 2021-22 by the MCL.
