Jamshedpur, December 14
All India Inter-Steel Plants Basketball Championship was kicked-off today at JRD Tata Sports Complex at Jamshedpur. It’s a 3-day championship, starting today on December 14, 2021, and concluding on December 16, 2021.
A total of nine steel plants across the country is participating in this championship. The participating steel plants are IISCO Steel Plant, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (Vizag Steel), Bokaro Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, JSW Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant, Alloy Steel Plant, and Tata Steel Limited. The championship will be played on a league basis, each team consisting of ten members. The matches will be held at the newly renovated basketball court at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The event was graced by the presence of Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel as the chief guest, and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union, as the guest of honour. Other guests present for the occasion were the officials of Tata Worker’s Union, the senior leadership team of Tata Steel, members of the Sports Advisory Committee, participants and coaches from participating steel plants, and members of the Sports Division of Tata Steel.
Speaking on the occasion, Chanakya Chaudhary said, “Tata Steel has always promoted Sports as a way of life and encouraged its employees and community at large in making it an integral part of their lifestyle. Sports must be promoted for ensuring healthy lifestyle and enabling stronger engagement among the workforce. It also contributes greatly towards workplace stress management. Tata Steel continues to build a healthy sports culture by encouraging sports enthusiasts, nurturing professionals, and providing state-of-the-art sports infrastructure”. He further added, “Fostering grassroot-level programmes is imperative to identify and nurture talent.”
Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, expressed, “The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely impacted people’s life. But as the situation is improving and certain relaxations given, Tata Steel aims to organise such sporting competitions in future and today, feels proud to host this year’s All India Inter-Steel Plants Basketball Championship. Jamshedpur provides best facilities to its employees and community at large with best schools, clean drinking water, 24X7 supply of electricity, roads, hospitals, parks, and sports clubs. Tata Steel must continue to host such sporting events so that Jamshedpur continues to remain a vibrant city.”
During the inaugural event, a dance performance was prepared by young female trainees from the Basketball Training Centre and flag hoisting was organised to inaugurate the championship.
