Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had assured free legal aid to all anarchists masquerading as farmers who were arrested by the Delhi police in connection with the violence unleashed on Republic Day during tractor rally.
Surprisingly, the farmers organisers besides opposition political parties including had charged that BJP supporters were involved in the Delhi violence and devastation at Red Fort. Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh had endorsed that BJP supporters had no role to play in the incident as he had decided to contest the cases of those arrested for the crime.
The arrests were made on the basis of video footages and strong evidences. If Amrinder Singh was defending the arrested persons, it sent an overt signal that the miscreants had no connection with the BJP. For, a Congress Chief Minister cannot support BJP supporters or workers.
Close to 89 persons, hailing from UP, Haryana and Punjab have been arrested by Delhi Police in 38 offences registered in connection with the Republic Day violence.
Captain Amarinder Singh has decided to spill taxpayer money on rioters currently ‘missing’ or under arrest in Delhi. On Monday, he said that the Punjab government has arranged a team of 70 lawyers in Delhi to assist those farmers who have been booked by Delhi Police.
“Punjab Government has already arranged a team of 70 lawyers in Delhi to ensure quick legal recourse to farmers booked by the Delhi police. I will personally take up the issue of missing farmers with MHA & ensure these persons reach home safely. For assistance call 112,” Singh said in a tweet.
It is pertinent to mention that the battery of 70 lawyers appointed by the Punjab Government in Delhi would not operate without being paid. Effectively, the cost of hiring them solely to provide legal counsel to the protesting farmers would be borne by the government of Punjab. The honest taxpayers’ money would be used by Singh for helping those who ran a riot on the streets of the national capital.
