The central government has granted three-month extension in the service of Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain.

The 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was due to retire on June 30, 2025. The centre granted the extension in the service at the last moment of his superannuation.

The state government sources said the extension would be for a period of three months.

A native of Chhattisgarh, Amitabh Jain was born in Durg and had his early education in Dalli Rajhara that houses steel-major SAIL’s iron-ore mines. He topped the Higher Secondary 11th Board in undivided Madhya Pradesh.

His journey began with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Bhopal, followed by an M.Tech from IIT Delhi, powering him with technical expertise for administrative roles.

Amitabh Jain became Chhattisgarh’s 12th Chief Secretary in 2020 and is the state’s longest-serving in the role. Known for his expertise in finance, governance, and policymaking, he played a key role in the state’s development since its formation in 2000.

With a distinguished career spanning three and a half decades, Chhattisgarh will avail his service for another few months.

He will be the first Chief Secretary to get an extension after Chhattisgarh came into being on November 1, 2000.
