The Annual Coal Mine Safety Fortnight 2025 was inaugurated at the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) headquarters on Monday.
The event, which will continue till December 14, 2025, was inaugurated by Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Harish Duhan by hoisting the security flag. Director Technical (Operation) N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Personnel) Biranchi Das, Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain, various heads of departments, officers-employees and various labour union representatives were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Duhan said they all had to work together to achieve the goal of zero accidents. “We must avoid doing such things that can pose a serious security threat to our colleagues,” Duhan said, adding that they have to make every effort to achieve the goal of zero accident in the mine and have to make continuous efforts to promote safety awareness among the personnel in the mines.
Director Technical (Operation) N Franklin Jayakumar said that safety was their first priority. He emphasized discipline and attitude in work culture to achieve the goal of security. Safety Fortnight provides a unique opportunity to reiterate the collective commitment to safety, honor the efforts of our personnel and set new benchmarks for safety.
At the onset of the programme, the guests laid wreaths on the martyr’s memorial and miner’s statue. On this occasion the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Chief Guest that was repeated by all present.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the martyred laborers in the program. The guests released a “Sukrukha se Samriddhi Booklet” in which safety standards are mentioned.
The welcome address in the program was delivered by Manoj Kumar, General Manager (Safety & Security). On this occasion, a play was staged by the Kusmunda area team on the theme of “Safety” in which the message was given to follow all standards of safety while working in the mine.
The CMD along with the Directors and Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain flagged off the Safety Chariot to spread the safety message in all the coal zones of SECL.
