Another hooch tragedy in Bihar kills 25, Nitish blames BJP

In yet another illicit liquor tragedy in Saran, third in last six months, 25people died and 20 more are admitted in hospitals at Mashrakh, Saran sadar hospitals and Patna Medical College Hospital.

Police claimed they arrested three people engaged in illicit liquor trade and apprehended death toll may rise .

According to the family members of the deceased, the victims had purchased pouches of country made liquor at the rate of Rs 20 per pouch.

Doctors attending the victims at Sadar Hospital said last night five died and during the day hours on Wednesday 17 died. Four died on way to hospital at Patna. Till the time of reporting, post mortem of 17  bodies had been done.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, member of Lok Sabha from Saran claimed 100 have lost their eye sights. He talked to the district civil surgeon and suggested better treatment to the survivors.

However,BJP member of Lok Sabha in Saran district,Janardan Singh Sigriwal claimed 35 people died today.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused the BJP leaders with their involvement in illicit liquor trade in Bihar, where there is total prohibition since April ,2016.

Chief Minister said since 2016, 1.64 crore people have left drinking liquor citing an official survey.

Speaking in the assembly, Nitish said” tum log sharabi ho, tum log Sharab bikwa rahe ho. Bahut Ganda Kaam hai”.

Opposition members entered the well of the House and demanded action against the officers responsible for failure to enforce prohibition.

Saran SP, Santosh Kumar said house to house search has been launched to trace the manufacturers and traders engaged in liquor business.

In August,2022 ,over a dozen had died following consumption of liquor in Saran. In April too,11 had died in Saran following consumption of liquor.
