Three days after the deadliest train accident in Balasore of Odisha, a goods train carrying limestone for Adani Group-owned cement plant jumped the tracks in Bargarh district on Monday afternoon.
According to railway sources, five wagons of the goods train loaded with limestone derailed near Mendhapali area in the district. However, the train was not operated by the Indian Railways as it was run by ACC Bargarh. The accident took place when the train was on its way to the manufacturing factory from Dunguri limestone mines.
Fortunately, no casualty was reported in the mishap. Sources said the section where the derailment took place was solely used for ferrying limestone from the mines to company’s production facility.
The senior officials of the cement company and police rushed to the spot soon after getting information and started the investigation into the matter. The Railway officials said they did not have any role as the infrastructure is maintained by the private cement company.
“There is a private narrow gauge rail line between Dungri limestine mines and cement plant of ACC Bargarh. A derailment has happened in early morning today on that railway line. The line, wagons, loco all are private. It is in no way connected with Indian Railway system,” the railway said.
The report of another derailment of train in Odisha stunned the railway officials who immediately enquired about the incident. They heaved a sigh of relieve when informed that the goods train was owned by ACC Bargarh that Adani group has purchased.
