The noted litterateur and retired IAS officer, Dr Bhagwati Sharan Mishra (81) passed away in New Delhi today morning.
Dr Mishra, who had written over 109 books including epics in Hindi and English, was found dead in the bed room in his Paschim Vihar residence. According to family members, he died in sleep. His wife had left for heavenly abode last year.
Dr Mishra who held several important assignments in Bihar government and railway ministry had written a voluminous book on Chhattisgarh’s famous goddess Danteshwari Devi of Dantewada, is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, shrines of Shakti, the divine feminine, spread across India. The famous works include “Aranya”, a 700-page book on Danteshwari Devi and tribal culture of Bastar.
He was instrumental in launching literacy campaigns in Bihar through Deepayatan institution. Dr Mishra was secretary of Bihar State inter-university board, Director of Raj Bhasha, Director Bihar Rashtra Bhasha Samiti, Hindi, Maithili and Bhojpuri academics, Director Institute of Rural Development, joint secretary rural development, Lecturer in Economics at Ara Jain College, Ranchi College.
He had represented India in the world Hindi conference in Mauritius. Dr was joint secretary in the rural development department and Director of Bihar State Institute of Rural Development, besides holding several field postings as BDO, SDM and DM.
