Raipur, August 9
Arun Sao, the Member of Parliament from Bilaspur, has been appointed as the President of Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He will succeed Vishnu Deo Sai.
BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda issued the notification to this effect. The order had come into immediate effect.
Known for his strong base among the lower cadre, Sao is an advocate and agriculturist by profession. He has a good connection among party workers and also the higher ups in the organization.
Sao comes from Other Backward Community (OBC) and the move of BJP seems to be a step to sway the class in the state polls due later next year. In Chhattisgarh, OBC comprises about 44 per cent of the population.
Moreover, Sao is not affiliated to any particular group in the groupism-ridden Chhattisgarh BJP. His appointment would be accepted by all fractions in the party and the BJP bets on the deal to activate the cadre ahead of the elections.
