Guwahati, April 17
Former Assam Congress President Ripun Bora on Sunday joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the presence of Party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee here.
The development in yet another instance of the TMC poaching from the Indian National Congress as one of Assam’s tallest Congress leaders Ripun Bora quit the grand-old party to join Mamata Banerjee’s outfit.
“Extending a very warm welcome to Shri @ripunbora, a stalwart and skilled politician, who joined the @AITCofficial family today. We are extremely pleased to have you onboard and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people!” Abhishek tweeted.
Since last year, the TMC has taken it upon themselves to dismantle the Congress, first in Assam and then in Meghalaya. Last year, another influential Congress veteran and one of Barak Valley’s most well-known faces, Sushmita Dev, switched over to the Congress. With Bora’s departure, the Congress has been dealt a hammer blow.
“I am very Pained to inform you that it is an open Secret in Assam that instead of fighting against BJP a section of Senior most Leaders of Assam PCC have been maintaining Secret understanding with BJP Govt mainly with the Chief Minister. Under this backdrop my conscience does not allow me to continue in Congress Party Where the Party’s interest and ideology are being Compromised in favour of BJP for some vested interest of few leaders,” Bora said in a letter to Congress Working President Sonia Gandhi.
