Knee deep in snow, assault rifle in hand and stethoscope around the neck, this is the identity of Dr. Deepsikha Chettri commissioned as Captain in the Indian Army.
She will be the second female officer from Sikkim to serve the Indian Army.
Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang also congratulated Deepsikha Chettri on successfully joining the Indian Army. He took to his social media account to congratulate Dr. Deepsikha Chettri on accomplishing the captain rank in the Indian Army and becoming the second female officer from Sikkim to ever serve in the Indian Armed Forces.
She has not only brought laurels for her parents but also for the entire state, Tamang said. Deepsikha is not just an army officer, but a doctor too. She has marched in an arena, where only men are seen more frequently. She is slowly becoming an inspiration for young girls.
Born to Rajendra Chetti and Bindu, Deepsikha has always been a meritorious student. She secured the sixth rank in the All-India ranking and second among female candidates in the army medical exams. She also topped the MBBS examination from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences.
Captain Deepsikha would be deployed in the frontline near Line of Control (LoC). Besides discharging her duties as a medical officer, she will not falter to pull the trigger when required.
In the last couple of years, Indian Army had taken a slew of measures for women empowerment. Besides permanent commission, they had been deployed in the LoC.
Captain Deepsikha Chettri stands as a tall example!
