The three shooters who killed gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf face life threat inside the Prayaraj jail.

Based on the intelligence report, the three have been shifted to a safer Pratapgarh jail. The three, Sunny Singh, Arun Maurya and Lovelesh Tiwari, were sent to Naini Jail in Prayagraj after the court sent them to 14 days judicial custody.

Gangster Atiq and his brother were attacked when they were taken for medical examination in a huge security cover. The assailants pumped nine bullets into his body, the post mortem report said. Atiq was shot at least nine times in his shocking murder on camera outside a hospital in Uttar Pradesh Saturday night, the autopsy report has found.

Atiq Ahmed was shot once on the head and eight times on the chest and back. The headshot was captured on live TV. The post mortem examination said five bullets were reportedly recovered from the body of his brother Ashraf Ahmed.

The last rites of both the gangster were performed on Sunday in their village in Prayagraj. His two minor sons, currently locked in a juvenile home for committing crimes, performed the rites after police brought them for burial rituals.

Sources said the intelligence inputs suspected that there could be an attack on the three in Naini jail as many henchmen of Atiq had been inside. The jail authorities decided to shift the three to Pratapgarh jail.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has asked the three-member judicial inquiry committee, constituted to probe the incident, to submit the report within two months. The state police had also announced to form two special investigating teams (SITs) to probe the sensational killing incident.
