The newly elected leader legislature party of of Aam Adami Party (AAP), Atishi on Tuesday afternoon stake claim to form the new government in Delhi.
Earlier in the day, she was elected as Kejriwal’s successor at a legislature party meeting. The political development in the national capital was in the backdrop of Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to step down as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
He is on bail and has been charged for shady deals in the liquor scam. Kejriwal has pledged that he will not assume the office of Chief Minister until the people re-elect him to the legislative assembly.
Kejriwal along with his cabinet colleagues reached the LG Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. He tendered his resignation to LG V K Saxena. Atishi, who accompanied Kejriwal, gave the letter of AAP legislature party and staked claim to form the new government.
Atishi was named the new Chief Minister of Delhi, after the AAP MLAs unanimously agreed on Kejriwal’s proposal to name her as his successor in a legislative party meeting. She is a key face of the party as well as the government and holds multiple portfolios, including finance, education and PWD.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Assembly will be convened on September 26 and 27, the party said.
