Vedanta Limited’s group company Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO)) became the winner of Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (VDHM) ‘Run for Zero Hunger’ Challenge.
The aluminium major covered a total of 15,27,708 lakh kilometers in the (VDHM) campaign which lasted till October 20. BALCO secured top spot among all professional entities of the Vedanta Group.
Rajesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer and Director of BALCO, received the trophy in Delhi. The company won the trophy for the third time in a row with the collective efforts of BALCO’s employees, their families, business partners and community members in a campaign that lasted for almost 2 months.
More than 36,000 runners participated in the ‘Run for Zero Hunger’ marathon in the third edition of the Delhi Half Marathon. Vedanta Group has resolved that the employees will give nutritious food to the needy children for every kilometre they walk. This year, 10 million meals were collected, which is twice as much as last year. People participated in the campaign for their social responsibility and to keep themselves fit. The group achieved a total target of 10 million kilometers under Run for Zero Hunger.
Expressing his happiness over the trophy, BALCO CEO and Director Rajesh Kumar said that covering the most kilometers in the VDHM Challenge showed their commitment to the well-being of the community. He appreciated the collective effort of BALCO Parivar to provide more than 1.5 million meals.
Under the principle of giving back to the society envisaged by Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, Chairman of the Vedanta Group, around 6,500 Nand Ghar (homes) run by the group in 14 states across India will be given nutritious food. Nand Ghar Project has been started by Anil Agarwal Foundation with the aim of contributing to child development. Along with the community, the company believes in the holistic development of children.
It is in line with the company’s commitment to make India a malnutrition-free India. Along with children, animals will also benefit through the group’s animal welfare project, The Animal Care Organization (TACO).
