Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer, has achieved major success in reducing energy consumption according to established international standards in its various manufacturing processes.
BALCO has set new benchmarks in production of ‘Green Aluminium’, by reducing the cost of production. With the continuous pursuit of achieving ESG goals, the power consumption has reduced significantly during the last four years. BALCO’s endeavors to decrease coal consumption and improvement in power generation rate has also strengthened the industrial Health, Safety and Environment management.

Realising the energy conservation goals, BALCO has reduced power consumption in smelter operations of potline 1 as per the global benchmark and has become the best potline in India and Gulf countries thus, reducing its carbon footprint.”
BALCO has adopted various digital, smart and innovative techniques to reduce the specific power consumption which include attempts like changing the design of pot, developing the technique of fuse, online welding and single beam technology, establishing multiple point feeders, integrating air line, thermal modelling along with graphitized pot and establishing low pressure air technique.
BALCO’s achievements in the year 2021 towards best energy management incude topping the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) Cycle-II among the Indian Aluminium Industry. BALCO’s power plants have received CII ENCON Award 2021 in the field of best energy management and conservation. BALCO’s Power Plant 1200MW has been declared as State Winner – Chhattisgarh (Large Scale Category) with 4.75 Star rated certificate and the Power Plant 540MW has also procured 4.25 Star rated certificate in the 14th edition of CII Energy Conservation (ENCON) Awards 2021.
BALCO has been the recipient of various awards and accolades for its environmental conservation efforts. BALCO has won the Golden Peacock Award for Energy Efficiency’- 2021, ‘CII Energy Efficiency Award’, and ‘Golden Peacock Sustainability Award’. The company has also bagged ‘International Green Apple Award’ ‘CII Energy Excellence Award’, ‘Sustainable Business of the year Award’, ‘National Award for Excellence in Energy Management’ and ‘Energy & Environment Global Environment Award’ in recent years.
