Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO), a Vedanta group company, has conducted a voter awareness campaign at Ambedkar Stadium as part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation).

SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. CEO District Panchayat, Korba and SVEEP Nodal Officer Sambit Mishra, Korba Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mrs Pratishtha Mamgain were present as the chief guests of the program that started with the speech of Rajesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer and Director of BALCO.

Street plays were staged to create voter awareness. About 600 BALCO employees and community people participated in the program. The company has launched various initiatives in collaboration with the district administration to promote awareness among voters in the election preparations that include video screening at various locations inside the plant, audio announcement for employees at Parsabhata gate, through daily magazine BALCO Today. Initiatives like awareness messages and audio announcements through banners, flex and mobile vehicles in the community have been launched.

Addressing the people present in the program, Mishra said that they have got the right to vote from the Constitution. All of them have to participate enthusiastically in this festival of democracy. Appealing for the right to vote, he said that on May 7, people should come out of their homes and go to their nearest polling station to exercise their franchise. Regarding the program being conducted through SVEEP, he said that its main objective was to awareness and also to inspire the people around to vote.

Expressing her gratitude towards the BALCO, Mrs. Pratishtha Mamgai said that the BALCO had fully cooperated with the administration in making the voters aware. She administered oath to the people present for fair voting. She urged to cast vote and also inspire the voters around them by telling them the importance of voting.

BALCO CEO and Director Rajesh Kumar said that contribution of all citizens was necessary in the progress of the country. “We have to celebrate the festival of democracy with enthusiasm. Hundred percent voting is very important for the progress of the country,” he said, adding that the company was committed to promoting awareness about voting rights.

On World Labor Day, he called upon the BALCO laborers to unite and strengthen India’s democracy by voting in the elections, just as they all have taken the company forward.
