Aluminium major conducts month-long Knowledge & Skills Camp for government school students

Balconagar, June 27

The Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium Business, conducted a month-long Knowledge and Skills Camp 250 in which students from five government schools in the region participated.

It was conducted under the company’s ‘Project Connect’ CSR initiative. The camp included sessions on various topics like STEM learning, personality development, self-management, computer education, cybercrime, life skills, law session, communication, motivation, sports education, diet education, career counselling, dance, music, art & craft, animal rescue. The initiative was driven by employees of BALCO who volunteered to teach and share their experiences on diverse subjects with the students and motivated them to pursue their ambitions.

Abhijit Pati, CEO and Director, BALCO, said, “At Vedanta, sustainable livelihood development is a key pillar in our community development endeavors. With the right skills and education, our youth can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Chhattisgarh and India. Through these initiatives, we aim to foster skill development among the local youth, helping them avail opportunities to learn, and explore their respective domains of interest. BALCO believes in enabling each individual in the community with the resources they need to empower themselves, and our various community development programmes are aligned to that vision.”

Expressing her views, Mrs. Manokanta Paul, Principal, Government Boys School, said, “BALCO is playing a pivotal role in the developmental journey of the students of Korba. The company’s initiative to conduct a month-long special knowledge camp for the students of government schools is praiseworthy. Such programmes play a crucial role in the holistic development of the younger generations, adding to their academic studies. I am especially thankful to the employees of BALCO for volunteering to drive this camp.”

Initiated in the year 2016, Project Connect is aimed at supplementing the community’s needs for quality education especially in Science, English, Mathematics and Accountancy (SEMA) through field instructors and volunteers from amongst BALCO’s employees. The Project mainly focuses on improving the learning environment in government schools by creating an enabling environment for improving students’ grades, capacity building of teachers and career counselling, through employee volunteerism. In FY ’22, 1447 students benefited from regular and remedial classes for 9th – 12th class on SEMA subjects.
