Balconagar, March 31
Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic Aluminium producer, is transforming the doorstep healthcare services in the vicinity through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU).
Operated in association with Help Age India, the MHU is serving and providing primary healthcare services to around 45 communities of Balconagar and nearby rural areas. Since its inception around 5000 residents have been benefitted from the project. BALCO organizes health camps every day at three pre-decided locations where medical aid is provided to community members free of cost.
Working on the principles of medical service at doorstep, the MHU is a van equipped with modern machinery, and is managed by doctors and trained medical staff who provide free medical advice and awareness sessions to the local communities. The MHU has been fitted with equipment for diagnosis of common diseases like diabetes, hypertension, etc. For the elderly and those confined within their homes, the MHU is aiding in medical treatment at home. Medicines for common ailments are also available free of cost. Besides providing doorstep healthcare services, the MHU is contributing to spread awareness about the importance of nutrition and cleanliness, and various health schemes and programs run by the government. BALCO organized a mega Health Camp on March 29, 2022 in Roogbehri village where free medical treatment was provided to around 200 registered patients. During the camp, various diagnostic tests for diabetes, blood pressure etc. were also conducted.
Appreciating the initiative Ms. Chanda Manjhawar, Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat, Roogbehri, said, “The rural population is more vulnerable to various kinds of diseases due to lack of health and hygiene related awareness among them. They are also often the victims of unscientific treatment by quacks due to the dearth of financial resources. BALCO’s medical service at doorstep project is a boon for the residents of Roogbehri and the health camp has further facilitated accessibility of medical care.”
Abhijit Pati, CEO and Director, BALCO, shared his vision on improving health services in the region and said,“BALCO is committed to ensure easy access of health services to the communities residing in the vicinity. We are aiming to take medical services to the doorstep of the people residing in remote areas, the vulnerable section such as the elderly and children. The mobile health van followed by targeted health camps in specific locations is a strong initiative in the direction of making Korba one of the best medically facilitated districts in the region.”
Shubhankar Biswas, Head, Chhattisgarh, Help Age India, said,“Help Age India is successfully ensuring medical care at doorstep of Korba’s residents in partnership with BALCO. The initiative is helping in increasing the awareness level of villagers towards health and its importance. I convey my sincere thanks to BALCO management for the effective implementation of this project.”
