Posing for a photograph with Sproftacchel—a photo stand-in with an armed soldier has been an excitement for the people as the enchanting pavilion put by Bastar police pulled the attraction.

From elderly to kid, the photo-stands put in the pavilion enthralled the visitors. But much more was in the display; depicting the picture of changing Bastar that had been globally infamous for the deadly Maoists violence.

The Bastar police put a stall in a recently concluded exhibition in Chhattisgarh’s capital. The pavilion was named “Manva Nava Naar” which means “Our New Village”.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar) Sundarraj Pattilingam endorsed; a large number of students, youths, women and others thronged the stall and keenly enquired about the positive transformation taking place in Bastar. “They were enthusiastic to acquaint themselves with the activities going on in Bastar region while praising the efforts of police and civil administration,” recalled Sunderraj.

In the last three years, over 36 camps of security forces have been set up across the Bastar region. While it ensured safety of civilians from the Left-wing extremists, the camps had been providing a security cover to expedite the development works simultaneously. “The benefits bestowed to the people from the camps have created a positive mark towards government and administration among the localities,” Sundarraj said.

Under the Manva Nava Naar project, the base camps of the security forces in Bastar would be converted into an Integrated Development Centre (IDC), converging all the government schemes launched for the welfare of the people. It has been a big leap forward for the integrated development plan in the restive pocket that will also generate employment opportunities for the youth.

In fact, Sundarraj said, the Bastar police had conducted a massive recruitment of local youths in the Chhattisgarh Armed and District Police Forces whom the rebels were misguiding. “It has yielded the desired results; the rebels are battling to expand and induct new recruits in the cadre,” the Bastar IG said.
