Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna company SAIL, has registered its best-ever April–March performance in the financial year 2025-26, achieving new milestones across major production and techno economic parameters.

RSP recorded it’s highest-ever production in the areas of Blast Furnaces, both from Blast Furnace-1 & Blast Furnace- 5. Blast Furnace-1 produced 10,70,379 tons of hot metal where as Blast Furnace-5 clocked 32,46,361 tons surpassing previous year figure of 31,32,316 tons achieved in the corresponding period last year (CPLY)  with a growth rate of 3.6%.

In the downstream New Plate Mill (NPM) recorded a growth rate of 6.6% and produced all time best 9,93,351 tons of plate. Similarly Hot Strip Mill 2 (HSM-2) also put up a matching feat by clocking the ever best result in the aforementioned period. During the period HSM-2,  HR Coil total production clocked 26, 70,243 tons with a growth rate of 4.3%. The New Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) of HSM-2 also registered its best fiscal performance by producing 3, 14,356 tons of HR plates, recording a robust growth of 18.7% over CPLY.

In special plate production that caters to our defence sector, Special Plate Plant produced best ever special plate production of 3905 tons surpassing previous best figure of 3366 tons achieved during 2017-18.

Similarly in saleable steel production also RSP produced 41,65,222 tons of saleable steel in the current fiscal surpassing the last year production figure 40,80,451 tons and recorded a steady growth rate of 2.1%.

It is noteworthy that during the just concluded financial year, RSP created benchmarks in many techno economic parameters as well. Adherence to strict operational discipline and cost optimisation module RSP achieved best ever coke rate, best ever BF productivity and best ever coal to hot metal ratio in blast furnaces. Similarly in Steel Melting Shop 2, total metallic input recorded ever best figures. Similarly in specific power consumption and specific water consumption also RSP created new records.

With this impressive performance RSP collective is confident to achieve the higher targets set this year with excellent performance both in production and techno economic parameters. With special impetus in new product development, stock reduction, revenue maximization & gainful utilization of wastes RSP aims to strengthen its bottom line thereby improving its profitability.
