Raipur, March 13
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Wednesday inked a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the production of compressed biogas under the sustainable scheme in Chhattisgarh.
The agreement was signed between BPCL, a Government of India undertaking, and the State Municipal Corporations at Raipur and Bhilai, and Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, which was making continuous efforts for the production of biofuel from municipal solid waste in view of its immense potential. Under the agreement, BPCL will set up compressed biogas plants in Raipur and Bhilai.
According to the Chhattisgarh government spokesperson, Rs 100 crore will be invested by BPCL in the two plants. The capacity of each plant will be 100 to 150 TPT. With the MoU, about 200 to 250 metric tons of municipal solid waste will be used in the production of biofuel every day in the state.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao.
The spokesperson said a large-scale employment opportunity will also be created during the construction of the plant. It will create direct and indirect employment of about 60,000 man-days per year in the state. On production and sale at full capacity in all compressed biogas plants, the state will receive GST of Rs 20 lakh per year.
The plant will have organic fertilizer as a co-product. It will encourage organic farming in Chhattisgarh. Establishment of compressed biogas plants will prove to be a strong step towards Chhattisgarh Green War Room.
