Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the Chhattisgarh-based arm of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has registered record performances in all major parameters of performance in financial year 2023-24 (FY24).
In a statement, the company said the Plant’s blast furnaces recorded the highest ever hot metal production of 5.98 million tonnes (MT), surpassing previous best of 5.71 MT achieved in 2010-11. This includes the highest ever production of 2.68 MT by the plant’s largest blast furnace, Blast Furnace 8, as against previous best of 2.54 MT in previous fiscal.
The Plant recorded the highest ever crude steel production of 5.67 MT from SMS 2 and SMS 3 in FY 24, surpassing previous best of 5.33 MT recorded in 2010-11. This includes best ever cast steel production of 3.44 MT by Modex unit SMS 3, surpassing previous best production of 3.06 MT.
The statement added that the plant recorded the highest ever saleable steel production of 5.23 MT, surpassing previous best of 4.82 MT achieved in FY23. Best ever finished steel production of 4.57 MT was also recorded by the Plant, surpassing the previous best of 4.43 MT.
Highest ever sinter production of 8.74 MT was recorded by the Sinter Plants, surpassing the previous best of 8.03 MT achieved in 2022-23. This included best ever production of 5.93 MT by Sinter Plant 3 as against previous best of 5.43 MT recorded in previous year 22-23. The Plant’s Coke Ovens recorded its best ever Equivalent Oven Pushing rate of 784 ovens per day during FY24, bettering previous best of 769 ovens recorded in 2010-11.
In the area of long rail production, Universal Rail Mill recorded its best ever production of 8.53 lakh tonnes of prime rails as against previous best of 7.90 lakh tonnes in previous fiscal 22-23, the company said, adding that the Rail and Structural Mill too recorded best ever figure of 1.71 lakh tonnes of long rails, surpassing previous best of 1.52 lakh tonnes in FY23. The Plant recorded best ever total long rails production of 10.20 lakh Tonnes in FY24, surpassing previous best of 9.09 lakh tonnes in FY23. As many as 1082 rakes of long rail were dispatched to Indian Railways, as against previous best of 1000 rakes dispatched in last FY23.
Modex unit Bar and Rod Mill (BRM) that crossed its annual rated capacity of 9 lakh tonnes, recorded its best ever production of 9.75 lakh tonnes, as against previous best of 8.40 lakh tonnes in FY23.
