Bhilai Steel Plant records best ever production for April to July period

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has created new records in production in the first four months period of current financial year from April to July 24.

The Plant recorded its best ever Saleable Steel production of 1.73 million tonnes (MT) as against previous best of 1.68 MT recorded in corresponding period of last fiscal year 2023-24. Best ever Finished Steel production of 1.56 MT was recorded in the April to July period, as against previous best of 1.48 MT recorded in corresponding period of last fiscal year 2023-24.  

Loading of Saleable Steel by the Plant at 1.71 MT and loading for Direct Despatches to customers by the Plant at 9.14 lakh tonnes have also been the best ever for any April to July period since inception, as against previous best of 1.68 MT and 8.56 lakh tonnes, respectively, recorded in corresponding period of last fiscal year 2023-24.

Best ever performances for any April to July period have been recorded in several other areas of production as well. Production of long rails at 3.24 lakh tonnes has been the best ever as against previous best of 3.07 lakh tonnes in corresponding period of last fiscal year 2023-24. Universal Rail Mill that rolls out world’s longest rail recorded its highest long rail production of 2.62 lakh tonnes as against previous best of 2.54 lakh tonnes in April to July 2023-24. Rail & Structural Mill too recorded its best ever long rail production of 63,152 Tonnes, surpassing previous best of 53,022 T in April to July 2023-24. The Plant recorded best ever loading of 3.26 lakh tonnes of long rails for Indian Railways in April to July period, surpassing previous best of 3.06 lakh tonnes in corresponding period of FY 2023-24. A total of 110 rakes of long rails, including 15 rakes from Sabarmati welding plant, have been dispatched to Indian Railways during the period.

Production of 4.29 lakh tonnes finished plates has also been the best ever for April to July period as against 4.23 lakh tonnes recorded in corresponding period of fiscal year 2010-11. Best ever production of 3.25 lakh tonnes was recorded by Bar & Rod Mill, surpassing previous best of 2.95 lakh tonnes in April to July 2023-24. Steel Melting Shop 3 has recorded highest production of 7.80 lakh tonnes of cast billets as against previous best of 7.32 lakh tonnes in corresponding April to July period of FY 23-24.

In the area of techno-economics, highest ever Coal dust injection rate in any month at 144 kg per tonne of hot metal produced was recorded by the Plant’s blast furnaces in July 24, as against previous best of 138 kg/THM recorded in October 2022.
