A team of three young managers from SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) had won the prestigious Chairman’s Trophy for Young Managers Trophy 2020-21, beating six other teams representing other entities of the state-run steel maker.
The young managers who brought laurels for the BSP included Neeraja Sharma, AGM (INCOS), Shiv Kumar, Deputy Manager (Bar & Rod Mill) and S P Rajkumar, Deputy Manager (INCOS)
The theme for CTYM 2020-21 was Digital Transformation in SAIL – Challenges & Opportunities. The Bhilai team of Neeraja Sharma, Shiv Kumar and S P Rajkumar won the corporate level round held on 17th April 2021 among 7 teams comprising five Integrated Steel Plants of SAIL, one team from CMO and one from SRU. They had earlier cleared the round at plant level on December 24, 2020.
The corporate level round event was conducted online by MTI, Ranchi with jury members consisting of P K Sinha, Vice Chancellor and Director, IIIT Naya Raipur, Amit Sen, Director (Finance), SAIL and Harinand Rai, Director (Technical), SAIL.
The team did extensive online literature review, held interaction with mid and senior level executives and technology vendors through online mode to identify pain points and their resolutions. Then an online survey was carried out to prioritize pain points and segregate them into short-term, mid-term and long-term milestones on the road map of digital transformation journey. It is envisaged through this presentation that SAIL will undertake this transformational journey paving the way for other steel plants in the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to become a “lighthouse factory”.
Congratulatory messages have poured in for the winning Bhilai Team. Director In charge SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Anirban Dasgupta, Executive Director (Works) Rajeev Sehgal have conveyed their congratulations to the winning team from Bhilai. ED (MM) Rakesh, ED (P&A) Shri SK Dubey, ED (Projects) Shri AK Bhatta, ED (M & HS) Dr S K Issar, Chief General Managers and other senior officers of the Plant have congratulated the Bhilai team for winning CTYM 2020-21. The team members also deserve special kudos for having made the efforts to prepare for different levels despite having suffered from Covid during the period of their preparations.
Members of the Bhilai team shared their experiences. Said Neeraja Sharma, “it was a bit difficult for me to prepare and participate in the final round as my husband was advised home isolation. I put my best and we believed in ourselves. It was a great experience to visualise our ideas through presentation.”
Shiv Kumar said “it has been a wonderful journey and learning experience. It was an honour to represent BSP at SAIL Level. I am glad that our team stood up to the expectations of HoD of HRDC and jury members of Bhilai round. This feat could not have been possible without continued support of my family, colleagues and seniors. I will cherish moments of this journey for a long time.”
S P Rajkumar said “we are really thankful for the suggestions given by jury members comprising of Shri S K Dubey, ED (P&A), Shri P K Jha, CGM(C&IT) and Shri Asit Saha, CGM(I&A) during Bhilai round. We would also like to thank the senior leadership of the Plant for letting us attend various web conferences on Industry 4.0. At last, I can’t forget to say thanks to my mother for her support and guidance throughout this preparation”
