Raipur, April 15
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel gave tips to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers on strengthening the rural economy in the state.
“The village shall become a production hub and the city a sales centre,” Baghel said while addressing the IAS Conclave organized in Naya Raipur today. Asserting that the villages should be powered with all facilities, the Chief Minister said it would boost the economy and subsequently source employment opportunities.
He told the IAS officers that any project could be executed effectively by taking the people into confidence. “If you work by taking citizens into confidence, it will yield good results,” Baghel said, adding that people of Chhattisgarh are very simple and are adept if properly guided.
Each village of Chhattisgarh is a Republic in itself. “Work with them (people) by taking into confidence, they will extend full support,” Baghel added.
The Chief Minister said the local producer had to be provided a marketing platform to showcase their produce. Referring to the perfect market economics of demand and supply, Baghel, who himself is a farmer, opined: “Only that much needs to be produced that can be easily sold.”
Citing an axiom in Chhattisgarh parlance, he said unworthy products could also be sold by proper marketing. Baghel recalled Chhattisgarh’s glorious past in trading that dates back to 2000 years ago. Rewan of Arang and Tarighat of Patan area stand testimony to it, he added.
During the period, an effective system of governance was in place and the present generation had to trudge down the road marked by the ancestors for manning a good administration.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister took a dig at the IAS officers and recalled his experience in dealing with the bureaucrats while in opposition.
