Member of Parliament and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh had been implementing the welfare programmes in the state effectively.

Kharge was addressing Farmers-Labourers convention in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district after launch of Mukhyamantri Nirman Shramik Pension Sahayata Yojana with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched the Mukhyamantri Nirman Shramik Pension Sahayata Yojana. Under this scheme, construction workers who have been registered for ten years and have completed 60 years of age will be given pension assistance of Rs 1500 per month for life.

“I have come to Chhattisgarh and noted that all the programs are being run by Bhupesh Baghel ji’s government in a good manner and all of you are getting its benefits,” Kharge said. He referred to Bhupesh Baghel government’s flagship Godhan Nyay Yojana that enabled people in the rural levels to get money directly in their account. He said the Chhattisgarh government had been aiding and constructed houses for the poor people who missed to get benefits of the Prime Minister Aawas Yojana.

“Our government thought about the poor and worked for them. Whoever helps the poor is always remembered,” Kharge said, adding that only those who fight for the poor get respect in history. He added that the work done in Chhattisgarh had been huge. “You worked for our workers. We strengthened the rights of workers and farmers at the Center so that they get benefits,” he added.

Kharge remembered eminent agriculture scientist Dr M S Swaminathan. “I was very close to him, his departure is very sad. He was the father of the Green Revolution in India,” Kharge said. His contribution was very important for the farmers of the country. Kharge paid tribute to Dr Swaminathan by observing two minutes of silence in the convention.

In his address, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Rs 1,895 crore was transferred to the accounts of 24,52,000 farmers by pressing the button. The money has reached the accounts of all the farmers. Congratulations and best wishes to all. “We have been giving the money under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan NYAY Yojana on the first day of every month. But keeping your convenience in mind, today on 28th September, Kharge Ji is depositing the money in your account,” Baghel said.  

Today, 264 projects worth Rs 266 crore were inaugurated and the foundation stone was laid in Balodabazar district. “Our government is concerned with the interests of every class. We have issued 20 lakh additional ration cards in the last 5 years, and are giving free rice and salt to 73 lakh people,” the Chief Minister said, adding that everyone is benefiting from the Half Bijli Bill Yojana.
