Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel performed the customary ‘Shastra Puja’ on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami today at his official residence.
He extended greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion on Vijayadashami festival, and also greeted the officers and employees present at his residence.
Baghel said that Dussehra is the festival of victory of truth over false, victory of light over darkness and the victory of Dharma over Adharma. This festival teaches us to overcome our ego and darkness, to walk the parth of light and rightesouness.
Dussehra is also a day to perform Shastra Puja—the rituals that entail worshipping Shastras and weapons. According to Hindu mythology, on this day, Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasura after a fierce battle that lasted for nine days. Following the death of Mahishasura, the weapons of Goddess Durga that she used in the battle were worshipped by the Gods.
During Shastra Puja, Goddess Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped to receive their blessings for strength and power. As per Hindu scriptures, Lord Rama performed Shastra Puja before the war with evil king of Lanka, Ravana, who was also killed on this day.
Shastra Puja has also been referred to in Mahabharata. Legends say that weapons were worshipped before the Kurukshetra war, and they helped the Pandavas to stand victorious against the Kauravas.
