Member of Parliament and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said Chhattisgarh government led by Bhupesh Baghel was realising Rajiv Gandhi’s dreams of inclusive growth.

The Chhattisgarh government on Sunday disbursed Rs 2055.60 crore to the beneficiaries of different Nyay Yojana (welfare schemes) launched in the state. The money was disbursed online at an event organised in Mahasamund to mark the 79th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

“In Chhattisgarh, under the leadership of Bhupesh Baghel ji, the government has made the dreams of Rajiv ji come true,” Sonia Gandhi said in a video message delivered on the occasion. The state government has dedicated itself towards improving the standard of living of all sectors, classes, communities and people of the society, she said, adding that in true sense, this is the true tribute to Rajiv ji.

A state government release said Rs 1,810 crore was transferred as second instalment under RGKNY, Rs 168.63 crore under Rajiv Gandhi Bhumihin Krishi Majdoor Nyay Yojana (RGBKMNY), Rs 66.21 crore to Rajiv Yuva Mitan Clubs, Rs 9.65 crore to the beneficiaries of Godhan Nyay Yojana and Rs 1.11 crore under Mukhmantri Parab Samman Nidhi Yojana.

With this, the state government has so far disbursed Rs 551.31 crore to women self-help groups, Gauthan committees and villagers so far under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the flagship scheme of the Bhupesh Baghel government launched in July, 2020. It has been aimed to promote organic farming, generate new employment possibilities in both rural and urban areas, promote cow rearing and cow protection, and provide financial benefits to the cattle producers.

Under the scheme, the Gauthans (livestock-sheds) have been set up that has emerged as a centre for livelihood of villagers. It has become the focus of boosting the rural economy with a number of activities including procuring cow-dung, cow-urine and adding value to it by manufacturing cow-dung paints, vermicompost, fertilizers etc. The state government has set up Rural Industrial Park (RIPA) in the Gauthans for taking up the activities.

“The efforts of the state government to strengthen the rural economy has given the desired results and Chhattisgarh has been able to pull out over 4 million from poverty,” Baghel said while referring to the recent report of NITI Aayog— National Multidimensional Poverty Index: A Progress Review 2023. The rural areas saw the fastest decline in poverty, which was the biggest achievement of the government in the last five years, Baghel added.
