Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel today unveiled The Incredible Journey of Kosa that accounts the history of pure silk that is grown in abundance in the state.
The book, authored by K N Kishore and Dr. Rajendra Mohanty, gives the narrative of Kosa silk from the mythical period to the present day. Obtained from silkworm, Kosa sarees and dress material are in big demand in the national and international market.
This book discusses the mythology behind ‘Kosa’ silk, its historical origin, literary evidence, mentioning the arrival and development of silk in India and its entry in Chhattisgarh. Apart from this it also discusses the traditional process of silk production, thread making process as well as the process of different types of silk fabrics like sarees, dress material, furnishing etc.
Also, the book gives a brief on the priceless handloom Kosa product of Chhattisgarh and will be useful as a storehouse of knowledge for the new generations.
Baghel congratulated and extended best wishes to all the people involved in the publication of the book. Senior journalist Babulal Sharma was also present on the occasion.
Kishore said the book was an attempt to document the journey, motifs, colors and weaves of Kosa along with traditional forms of silk weaving and preserve the history of the precious product.
