A 2-day Bidders Conference for New Steel Melting Shop of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was held from 20th to 21st September, 2024 at Rourkela Club.
Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP was the Chief Guest of the Concluding Session. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Tarun Misra ED (HR) with additional charge of ED (Projects), Sudeep Pal Choudhury, CGM (Projects & MOD), several other CGMs as well as many other senior officers of Projects and other associated departments were present on the occasion.
It is worth mentioning here that, RSP is planning to set up a new state-of-the-art Steel Melting Shop, to augment its steel making capacity. Hence a number of nationally and internationally reputed engineering firms and consultants were invited by the Projects Department of RSP to the Bidders’ Conference so as to discuss the latest trends and also brainstorm ideas, to chalk out the final shape of the new SMS. Senior officers and Heads of Departments of associated departments from RSP also took part in the deliberations.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Bhowmick commended the efforts of the Projects collective of RSP for organizing such a unique conference that brought together some of the top national and international engineering firms to discuss the upcoming state-of-the-art facility at RSP. “This conference will help us understand each other’s requirements and bridge the gap in a long run. The suggestions have been noted and we are deliberating on the key points that came up during the sessions,” he added.
Suryawanshi in his address said that successful project requires proper planning and direction. He further added that the success of this project is based on how it is approached and emphasized upon formulating the best strategies to move forward.
Earlier, Messrs M N Dastur Pvt Ltd summarized the 2 days deliberations in a precise presentation.
It is noteworthy that the Conference was inaugurated on 20th September, 2024 by Mr. Tarun Misra. A site visit to the plant was conducted following the inaugural session, where participants gained first-hand insights about the current operations and future scope of development at the Rourkela Steel Plant.
As part of the technical sessions, leading engineering firms, including M/s M.N. Dastur, M/s Danieli, M/s Primetals, and M/s SMS Group, made presentations on advanced technologies and methodologies that will be instrumental in shaping the New Steel Melting Shop. A film on the journey of Projects Department of RSP was screened during the inaugural session.
