Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday had a major climbdown since 2019 when he “surrendered” to the terms set by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on JDU’s claim for a berth in the Union Cabinet.

Nitish Kumar while reacting to the reports on cabinet expansion said: “It is for the PM to decide, it is his discretion.” He was responding to a query as to how many JDU MPs would be inducted in the Union Cabinet in the reported reshuffle.

Nitish said in 2019 when the NDA-led government was formed, he was the JDU President. In 2019, JDU was offered a symbolic representation with one berth, which Nitish had turned down.

“Let us forget 2019.” Kumar said and added that JDU would be part of the NDA Government. There are 16 JDU members in Lok Sabha.

RCP Sinha, JDU president and former principal secretary to Bihar CM has been authorised to negotiate with the BJP President J P Nadda on inducting ministers from the JDU quota.

Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan, LJP president and son of party founder Ram Vilas Paswan, today opposed invitation to his uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras for induction into the Union Cabinet and said Paras was expelled from the party.

Chirag alleged Paras split the party just to become the minister. He threatened to challenge Paras’ induction in the Cabinet.
