With all the major rivers in Bihar flowing frantically, the state is under the threat of severe flood even as authorities are on high alert.
Flood threat looms large over the state capital Patna as water level in river Ganga is rising one cm every hour after it crossed the danger mark. On Thursday afternoon, its level touched 50.10 cm, which is much above danger level. Ganga river waters entered the headquarters of Ganga water commission at 4 pm Thursday.
The water level crossed danger marks in the rural areas of Patna also and inundated Athmalgola town in Barh subdivision. People staying in the marooned village have taken shelter on National highways 31.
Officials at Barh said flooded Mahane and Panchane rivers have reached one km away from National highways and 11 wards of the sub divisional town are submerged.
Patna is surrounded by three rivers namely Ganga, Sone and Punpun.
On Thursday evening, Punpun river crossed an all time high of 52.35 cm submerging half a dozen villages. River Sone, which was flowing much above the danger mark at Sripalpur, has flooded Maner and Bihta towns.
The state government had alerted the affected districts to remain on high alert. The civic body in the state capital had started placing cement bags on the bank to create a wall and prevent the over flow into the city.
