Bihar state BJP President Samrat Choudhary has claimed India got Independence in 1977 and not in 1947.

He was speaking at the party headquarters while welcoming some senior JDU leaders into BJP.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sharply reacted to the claim of BJP leader and said those who were ignorant about the Independence Day of the country should be ignored. He is talking illegal, have no value. “I refuse to take even cognizance of his statement,” Kumar said.

Samrat Choudhary said, “I am not the person to agree on the claim that India got freed in 1947. Britishers  left India, but left English culture and people to stay here.” India got genuine freedom in 1977 from Patna, where Jayaprakash Narayan led the Total Revolution movement, he said.

Reacting to the statement of BJP state president, Chief Minister said, “I do not take cognizance of his statement. Every one knows the day India got Independence. But, the BJP people even do not know when India became free. “It means they are talking illegal things and I attach no value to their statement,” the Chief Minister said.

Nitish said he would be attending the two days conclave of opposition leaders in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. There would be additions of more opposition parties on Mumbai meeting than earlier meetings held at Patna and Bangalore.

Nitish said he was not an aspirant to be convenor of INDIA bloc. Opposition leaders would decide on the constituency wise allotment of seats in the Mumbai meeting and seat sharing may be finalised by the leaders. He advised RJD president, Lalu Prasad not to make controversial statements on issue of convenors. Lalu had said there would many convenors of INDIA.
