The Janata Dal United (JDU), the ruling party with BJP alliance, on Tuesday retained both Tarapur and Kusheshwarsthan assembly seats in the mid-term poll trouncing Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) nominees.
Congress that contested both the seats breaking alliance with RJD secured the fourth position.
JDU attributed success to the MY factor (Mahila and Yuva) against RJD’s MY (Muslim and Yadav) combination.
At Tarapur in Munger district, it was neck to neck fight between the JDU and RJD as JDU candidate, Rajiv Kumar Singh was trailing behind RJD till 19th round. Singh won the seat by 3182 votes.
At Kusheshwarsthan, JDU candidate, Aman Kumar Hazari, son of Shashi Bhushan Hazari took the lead since the first round and ended up defeating RJD candidate Ganesh Bharti by about 13,000 votes.
Leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav who was camping at Tarapur conceded defeat and welcomed verdict. A former cricketer, Tejashwi said RJD lost in the last ball at Tarapur.
