Young journalist Manish Kumar Singh of Harsidhi in East Champaran district,175 kms north from Patna, was brutally killed in a cold-blooded murder that had shocked Bihar.
The assailants gouged his eyes out and slit his throat with sharp weapons. The police have nabbed two mufassil journalists in connection with the murder of Manish Kumar Singh. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said raids were being conducted to arrest ten more named by Sanjay Kumar Singh, father of Manish, He said speedy trial would be ensured in the court.
Sanjay owns a local paper, Areraj Darshan. He had lodged an FIR with police claiming his son was missing since Saturday. He had alleged his son had received threatening messages too. Sanjay was an RTI activist.
Police said the motorcycle used by the young journalist was found abandoned at Mathlohiyapur village under Kotwa panchayat. Later, villagers found shoes used by Manish abandoned near a small rivulet. Police found the bloated body of Manish floating in the rivulet.
Police said Manish was murdered brutally as his eyes were gouged out.
Pramod Kumar, officer-in-charge of Harsidhi police station said the mobile set of the young journalist who worked for a regional news channel was not found and it was responding with switched off signals since Saturday evening.
East Champaran SP Navin Chandra Jha said police had formed a special investigation team. During the post mortem, it was found, neck of the slain journalist was slit by a sharp weapon.
The two media persons arrested were sent to jail after production before the court. They have been identified as Amrendra Kumar and Ashad Alam.
