Arun Kumar Singh, a 1985 batch IAS officer, is the new chief secretary of Bihar

In a major administrative reshuffle, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday appointed development commissioner Arun Kumar Singh, a 1985 batch IAS officer, as new chief secretary of Bihar.
He would replace Deepak Kumar, who would now be the new principal secretary to the Chief Minister. Deepak, a 1984 batch IAS officer, was chief secretary on extension for the last one year.
In 2002, the then Chief Minister, Rabri Devi had appointed Mukund Prasad as her principal secretary following his retirement as chief secretary.
Amir Subhani, a 1987 batch IAS officer will succeed Arun as development commissioner. Subhani was heading the home department since 2005 as Secretary, Principal Secretary and later as Additional Chief Secretary. The alliance partner of the ruling party, BJP, was pressuring the Chief Minister to change the home secretary.
Chaitnaya Prasad of 1990 batch, who was water resources development Secretary, will be new principal secretary of Home department. Sanjay Kumar, his batch mate has been made Additional Chief Secretary of education department.
Secretaries in eight other departments have also been changed.
